Tirana airport passenger numbers up 74% y/y in May

June 24 (SeeNews) - The airport of Tirana served 949,601 passengers in May, up from 544,184 a year ago, figures published by the airport operator Tirana International Airport (TIA) show.

In terms of destinations, London leads with 77,020 passengers, closely followed by Bergamo, Rome, and Pisa, TIA said in a monthly report last week.

Hungarian low-cost carrier Wizz Air serviced the largest share of passengers in May, 53.73%, followed by Irish low-cost carrier Ryanair, with 25.47%.

Foreign tourist arrivals to Albania in May surged 38% year-on-year, to 974,000, the tourism ministry said earlier this month.

In 2023, the airport of Tirana welcomed 7.26 million passengers, 40% more than a year earlier.
