In 2011, Albania's population was 2.8 million, according to INSTAT.
In 2023, the Albanian population comprised 755,950 families with an average of 3.2 members per family, living in 1,082,529 ordinary dwellings, Elsa Dhuli, head of INSTAT, said, as seen in a video published by local news provider Ora News.
Natural population growth decreased 19% to 690 in the first quarter of 2024, compared to the first quarter of 2017, the earliest data available on Instat’s website.
Although emigration has decreased since the post-communist exodus in the 1990s, it remains an issue for the Albanian society, according to United Nation’s International Organization for Migration (IOM). In 2022, Albania’s net migration stood at 10,600, with more people leaving Albania than moving in.
