The European Commission said that, together with the European Investment Bank (EIB), it is disbursing 636.9 million euro ($728.9 million) from the EU's Modernisation Fund to Romania to support energy-related projects in the country.

The number of tourists staying in Romania fell by an annual 4.5% to 4.29 million in the first five months of 2026, the statistical board, INS, said on Friday.

The foreign exchange reserves held by Romania's central bank, excluding gold, totalled 63.493 billion euro ($72.467 billion) at the end of June, decreasing from 64.051 billion euro a month earlier, the central bank said.

Romania's finance ministry sold on Thursday 1.37 billion lei ($299 million/262 million euro) worth of new discount Treasury bills maturing on June 28, 2027, above target, central bank data showed.

Romania's finance ministry placed on Thursday 896.5 million lei ($195 million/171 million euro) worth of fixed-rate Treasury bonds maturing on July 27, 2033, above target, the central bank said.
