Serbia's energy ministry said on Tuesday it has opened a tender for the preparation of planning and technical documents for the construction of the Iron Gate III reversible hydropower plant (RHPP) on the Danube river, on the border with Romania.

Private investment firm CSIF Bulgaria has launched the construction of a vanadium redox flow batteries (VRFB) production plant, the first in Bulgaria, as part of its industrial complex project in which it has already invested over 20 million euro ($22.8 million), the municipality of the southern city of Stara Zagora said.

Pan-European renewables developer Aukera Energy said on Tuesday that it has signed a 48.5 million euro ($55.4 million) financing contract with the World Bank Group's International Finance Corporation (IFC) to fund the construction of the second phase of its 250 MW / 500 MWh Gura Ialomitei battery energy storage project (BESS) in Romania.

Hydropower plants (HPPs) in Bulgaria and Romania can bypass grid constraints and lower network build-out costs through hybridisation, UK-based think tank Ember said on Tuesday.

Eurowind Energy Romania, a unit of Denmark's Eurowind Energy, said on Monday that it is starting construction works on its Frumusita, Vector, and Pecineaga North-East wind farms after obtaining the relevant authorisations from the Romanian Energy Regulatory Authority (ANRE).
