In addition, the European Union will provide a 2 million euro investment grant through the EU-EBRD Regional Energy Efficiency Programme for the Western Balkans (REEP), along with a 1 million euro technical assistance grant for the project preparation and implementation, funded through the EBRD Shareholder Special Fund, the Bank said in a statement.
The financing will support various energy efficiency measures, including the installation of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems, as well as measures to enhance the performance of the buildings and, potentially, solar power technology to be installed in the clinical centre in the capital Podgorica and the hospitals in Cetinje and the northeastern town of Bijelo Polje.
The project will improve the energy performance and environmental sustainability of the renovated hospitals, enhance their structural integrity, and help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption, resulting in primary energy savings of more than 30% compared with baseline energy consumption. The new energy efficiency measures will also significantly improve indoor air quality and thermal comfort levels, leading to a reduction in healthcare-associated infections and better patient outcomes.
The EBRD has invested more than 800 million euro in 86 projects in Montenegro since 2006. Its priorities for the country are to support competitiveness, the green transition and its further integration into regional and global markets.
