Tourists spent 8.49 million overnights in Romania in the January-May period, up 2.2% on the year, INS said in a statement.
Foreign tourists accounted for 18.4% of arrivals at Romanian accommodation units. The number of international visitors arriving from the EU represented 57.3% of all foreign tourist arrivals, increasing by an annual 13.2%.
The number of tourists arriving from Asia fell by an annual 8.2% to 80,800 in January-May, while associated overnight stays in Romania slumped by 13.9% to 207,500.
In May alone, the number of tourists staying in Romania increased by 4.4% on the year to 1.09 million, while associated overnight stays rose by 5.2% to 2.12 million.

In 2023, the number of tourists staying in Romania grew by 10.5% to 13.65 million.
