On a monthly comparison basis, the industrial PPI grew by 2.7% in May on the back of a 13.5% leap in the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply sector and a 3.6% climb in the mining and quarrying industry, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said in a monthly report. At the same time, producer prices edged down by 0.2% month-on-month in the manufacturing industry.
Producer prices on the domestic market slipped by 4.3% on the year in May, following a 10.6% drop in April. The fall last month was due to a 13.8% tumble in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply prices. Producer prices on the non-domestic market rose by an annual 4.1% in May.
In annual terms, the most compelling price increases in Bulgaria's manufacturing industry were posted in the repair and installation of machinery and equipment - at 9.6%, and in the manufacture of rubber and plastic products - at 9%. Meanwhile, domestic producer prices in the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers went up 8.9% year-on-year.
