June 28 (SeeNews) - Supermarket chain operator Billa Bulgaria, part of Germany's REWE Group, said on Friday that it has put 6.1 million levs ($3.3 million/3.1 million euro) into the renovation of one of its stores in the northeastern city of Shumen.

The store now has self-service checkouts, digital labels, energy-efficient refrigeration, LED lighting and a water consumption control system, Billa Bulgaria said in a press release.

A new rooftop solar photovoltaic plant will also soon be put into operation at the store, with double the capacity of the existing one.

In 2024, Billa Bulgaria plans to invest over 73 million levs in modernising its existing supermarkets and opening new ones, which will create more than 250 new jobs nationwide.

Billa, which entered the Bulgarian market in 2000, currently operates 159 stores in 50 locations across the country.
