August 24 (SeeNews) - Bulgarian railway company BDZ Passengers said on Monday that it will lease an electric locomotive from DB Cargo Bulgaria, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Deutsche Bahn, under a contract worth some 1.0 million levs ($604,600/511,300 euro).
DB Cargo Bulgaria was awarded the contract on July 24, without a public procurement procedure, BDZ Passengers, part of state-owned railway group BDZ Holding, said in a notice.
Karlovo-based DB Cargo Bulgaria employs around 260 people. The company says its fleet for freight traction activities comprises 13 electrical and 5 diesel locomotives.
BDZ Holding said earlier this month that BDZ Passengers has decided to lease five Siemens Vectron electric locomotives from UBEX Bulgaria for 8.5 million levs following a tender for the contract. UBEX Bulgaria, an original equipment manufacturer industrial supplier, is fully owned by private investor Stefan Stefanov, according to commercial register data.
