Foreign tourist visits to Serbia up 30% y/y in May

June 28 (SeeNews) - The number of foreign tourists who visited Serbia in May jumped 30% year-on-year, reaching 236,772, the statistics office said on Friday.

Russia was Serbia's biggest feeder market in May with 20,819 tourists, up 42% on the year, data published on the website of the statistics office showed. Visitors from Turkey followed with 19,119, down 33% on the year. Visitors from Bosnia and Herzegovina came in third, up 6.9% to 18,373.

The number of domestic tourists rose by 5.2% on the year in May, to 218,417, thus boosting the overall tourist inflow for the month by an annual 17% to 455,189.

In January-May, the number of foreign visitors to Serbia climbed 15.8% to 806,605, while the overall number of tourists jumped 11% to 1,640,739.

The number of overnight stays spent by foreigners in Serbia rose 23% on the year to 569,781 in May, and increased 9.1% to 2,212,422 in January-May.

The overall number of overnight stays in the Balkan country was up by an annual 14% to 1,208,400 in May alone, and rose by 8.2% to 4,795,347 in the first five months of 2024.
