Bulgaria's net FDI inflow rises 28% in 2023

February 16 (SeeNews) - The net inflow of foreign direct investment (FDI) into Bulgaria grew by 28.1% on the year to 3.37 billion euro ($3.62 billion) in 2023, the central bank said on Friday.

The net FDI inflow last year, calculated according to the directional principle, was equal to 3.6% of the country's forecast gross domestic product (GDP) for 2023, the Bulgarian National Bank (BNB) said in a monthly report, citing preliminary data.

In 2022, the net FDI inflow into Bulgaria represented 3.1% of the year's GDP.

In December alone, net FDI in Bulgaria posted an outflow of 60.1 million euro compared to an inflow of 68.4 million euro in the same month of 2022.

The largest net FDI inflow into Bulgaria in 2023, of 821.2 million euro, came from Switzerland, followed by Austria with 376.8 million euro and Belgium with 335.9 million euro. Meanwhile, the biggest net outflow was directed to Israel, at 26.9 million euro, and Ireland with 22 million euro.
