Vucic, along with representatives from FCA's parent company Stellantis, will inaugurate the production at the Kragujevac plant, he said in a public speech on Monday. A video with his statement was published on the YouTube channel of Vucic's ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS).
Vucic stated that the production will greatly impact the growth of the gross domestic product of Serbia.
He noted that the new model will be first presented in Italy on July 11.
Vucic also announced that the government will provide 5,000 euro to every buyer of an electric car in Serbia, with an additional incentive for purchasing domestically produced cars.
In April 2022, Stellantis and Serbia signed a deal to jointly invest 190 million euro ($204 million) in launching the production of electric vehicles in Kragujevac. Back then, Vucic said production was expected to begin in early 2024.
According to previous reports, FCA Serbia might produce either a hybrid-powered version of its Fiat 500L model or an electric version of its Panda SUV model in the Kragujevac plant.
Stellantis was formed in 2021 following the merger of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) and France's PSA Group.
