The vaccine of Sinopharm has the largest share in COVID-19 immunisations in Serbia so far, with Serbian experts giving a very high estimate of its quality and safety, Vucic said in a press release.

"Serbia is the first European country to approve the Sinopharm vaccine, and today we will sign a contract for the delivery of 2 million new doses. We appreciate the trust of citizens in our product and we are happy that we can provide the necessary support to the people in Serbia in the fight against the virus," Sinopharm president Liu Jingzhen said.

Serbia started the vaccination of its citizens with the Sinopharm jab on January 19 and has received a total of 1.5 million doses of the Chinese vaccine so far.

Last week, Vucic said Serbia has agreed on the construction of a factory for the production of the Sinopharm vaccine on its territory. Serbia hopes to produce 24 million doses of the Sinopharm vaccine annually starting in October, deputy prime minister Branislav Nedimovic said earlier this week.
