June 10 (SeeNews) - Serbia hopes to complete the 19-km motorway stretch between its western towns of Kuzmin and Sremska Raca, on the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina, by the end of 2024, prime minister Milos Vucevic said.
Once completed, the section will act as a direct link between the Belgrade-Zagreb motorway, where Kuzmin is located, and the Sremska Raca border crossing, Vucevic said over the weekend.
On Bosnian territory, the motorway is planned to continue further 20 km connecting Sremska Raca with the town of Bijeljina, located in the Serb Republic, one of Bosnia and Herzegovina's two autonomous parts.
Serbia's infrastructure minister Goran Vesic was quoted as telling news agency Tanjug over the weekend that Serbia will provide further 10 million euro towards the construction of the Sremska Raca-Bijeljina motorway.
In October 2019, Turkish civil engineering company Tasyapi launched the construction of the Sremska Raca-Kuzmin section of the future motorway that will link Sarajevo with the Belgrade-Zagreb motorway. The cost of the project is seen at 225 million euro ($245 million), including 120 million euro to be spent on the construction of the Sremska Raca-Kuzmin section, further 100 million on the construction of a new bridge on the Sava river and 5 million euro for the development of the project documentation.
In July 2020, Serb president Aleksandar Vucic said that the construction of the Sremska Raca-Bijeljina motorway stretch is valued at some 150 million euro, with Serbia willing to participate in the project by providing 100 million euro of the total.
