February 2 (SeeNews) - Serbia plans to start the construction of a national football stadium in Belgrade on May 1, president Aleksandar Vucic said on Friday.
“The construction of the national stadium will start on May 1, which in my opinion will be the most beautiful in Europe,” Vucic said, as seen in a video posted by state broadcaster RTS.
Last April, local daily newspaper Blic reported that construction work was due to begin on the stadium by the end of last year.
Infrastructure work will be carried out by China's Power Construction Corporation (PowerChina). According to local media reports, the government plans to invest 350 million euro ($378.1 million) in the construction of the 60,000-seat stadium, which will have a four- or five-star Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) category.
