October 20 (SeeNews) - US-based biotech company Ginkgo Bioworks said it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Serbia’s government to collaborate on the development of the country’s bio-economy vision at the Bio 4 tech park, which is under construction in Belgrade.
Under the partnership, Ginkgo and Serbia’s ministry of science will work on establishing a startup accelerator, which will use the horizontal platform and experience of the company to create and support Serbian companies developing biological products, Ginkgo said in a press release on Thursday.
Ginkgo aims to be the end-to-end synthetic biology R&D partner for companies at BIO4 exploring solutions in pharmaceuticals, food and agriculture, industry, and specialty chemicals.
Additionally, Ginkgo and the Serbian government will collaborate to investigate and establish new biomonitoring capabilities in the country, including efforts to enhance capacity and biomonitoring initiatives within Serbia's public health sector.
Serbia began the construction of the 350 million euro ($370.9 million) Bio 4 tech park in May.
