Romania's Jan-April tourist numbers up 1.9%

Tourists spent 6.37 million overnights in Romania in the January-April period, up 1.3% on the year, INS said in a statement.

Foreign tourists accounted for 17.7% of arrivals at Romanian accommodation units.

The number of foreign tourists arriving from the EU represented 57% of all foreign tourist arrivals after increasing by an annual 13.7%.

The number of tourists arriving from Asia fell by an annual 18.9% to 56,300, while associated overnight stays in Romania slumped by 21.9% to 150,800.

In April alone, the number of tourists staying in Romania edged up 0.3% on the year to 897,200, while associated overnight stays inched down 1.6% to 1.7 million.

In 2023, the number of tourists staying in Romania grew by 10.5% on the year to 13.65 million.
