Romania's energy resources, including imports, totalled 5.201 million TOE in the first two months of the year, up by 1.5% on the year, the statistical office said in a statement. Imports amounted to 2.23 million TOE, up by an annual 4.8%.
Romania's own electricity output and imports totalled 11.721 TWh in January-February, registering no year-on-year growth.
Thermal power plants generated some 3.7 TWh of electricity in the two months through February, decreasing by 2.9% on the year, while the output of hydropower stations fell by an annual 0.4% to 2.96 TWh.
Electricity generation by Cernavoda, Romania’s sole nuclear power plant, inched up by 0.8% to 1.98 TWh in January-February.
Wind farms generated some 1.55 TWh of electricity, down by an annual 15.2%, while solar plants generated 245.6 MWh, up by an annual 47.2%.
Final electricity consumption rose by an annual 1.7% to 8.61 TWh in January-February.
Romania’s electricity exports dropped by an annual 5.8% to 2.05 TWh in January-February, while imports jumped 31.5% on the year to 1.28 TWh.
The country produced 449,400 TOE of crude oil, down 2.9% on the year, and 344,600 TOE of coal, down 5.6%, in the year's first two months. Natural gas production edged up 2% year-on-year, reaching 1.283 million TOE.
Romania's energy production fell 0.8% to 17.9 million TOE in 2023.
TOE is the rounded-off amount of energy that would be produced by burning one metric tonne of crude oil.
