February 14 (SeeNews) - Romania's energy output inched down by an annual 0.8% to over 17.9 million tonnes of oil equivalent (TOE) in 2023, the national statistical office, INS, said on Wednesday.
Romania's energy resources, including imports, totalled 32.9 million TOE in the twelve-month period, declining by 2.9% on the year, INS said in a preliminary statement. Imports amounted to 14.9 million TOE, down by an annual 5.3%, in the review period.

Romania's electricity output and imports totalled 65.71 TWh in 2023, up 2.4% on the year. The country's electricity output accounted for 57.1 TWh, increasing by 2.7% year-on-year.
In the twelve months through December, thermal power plants generated some 18 TWh of electricity, down 16.5% on the year, while the output of hydroelectric power stations jumped by an annual 31.4% to 18.6 TWh.
Electricity generation in Romania’s sole nuclear plant inched up by 0.9% to 11.19 TWh.
On the renewable energy front, wind farms generated some 7.62 TWh, rising by an annual 8.8%, while solar plants generated 1.65 TWh, 6.4% less than a year earlier.
Romania’s electricity exports rose 58.8% on the year, reaching 11.63 TWh in 2023, while imports inched up by an annual 0.8% to 8.61 TWh.
The country produced 2.79 million TOE of crude oil, down 4.4% on the year, and 2.48 million TOE of coal, down 18.9%, during the January-December period. Natural gas production rose 1.5% year-on-year, reaching 7.5 million TOE.
In 2022, Romania's energy production fell by an annual 2.6% to 17.82 million TOE.
