Passenger numbers at Bulgaria's coastal airports drop 12% y/y in Jan

February 13 (SeeNews) - Germany's Fraport Group, the operator of Bulgaria's coastal airports of Varna and Burgas, said on Tuesday that combined traffic numbers for the facilities went down by an annual 12% to 85,231 passengers in January.

The passenger volume at Burgas Airport soared by 105.5% on the year to 11,906 last month but dropped by 19.5% to 73,325 at Varna Airport, Fraport Group, majority owner of the airport operator Fraport Twin Star Airport Management, said in a monthly traffic report.

The total passenger numbers at both airports amounted to 125.5% of the traffic recorded in the same month of pre-pandemic 2019.

Cargo handled at the Varna and Burgas airports sank 54.4% year-on-year to 26 tonnes in January, while aircraft take-offs and landings rose 0.4% to 823.

Last week, Fraport Twin Star Airport Management said Burgas Airport will close from March 7 to March 31 due to planned repairs.
