Montenegro's annual inflation slows to 4.9% in May

June 17 (SeeNews) - Montenegro's consumer price index (CPI) rose by 4.9% year-on-year in May, after increasing by an annual 5.4% in April, the statistical office said.

On a monthly comparison basis, Montenegro's consumer prices edged up by 0.1% in May, after rising by the same pace in April, the statistical office said in a statement on Friday.

In May, the prices of food and beverages rose by an annual 2.8%, housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuel prices increased by 7.0%, while the cost of transport went up 5.4% compared to May 2023.

The biggest annual rise in prices in May, of 10.2%, was recorded in the hotel and restaurant services sector, and by clothing and footwear where prices increased 10%.

In monthly comparison terms, the cost of food and beverages was up 0.1%, prices of housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuel remained unchanged, while transport costs fell 0.8% in May.

In the January-May period, the CPI index rose by an average 4.9% year-on-year.
