January 4 (SeeNews) - Montenegro plans to launch a tender for the construction of the second section of the motorway linking the port city of Bar to Boljare, on the border with Serbia, and running from Matesevo to Andrijevica, in the first half of 2024, local media reported.
The government has allocated 90 million euro ($99 million) for the project, state broadcaster RTCG reported on Wednesday.
Construction is expected to start in the second half of the year, transport ministry official Pavle Tripkovic was quoted as saying.
In November 2021, local media reported that the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is ready to support the construction of the second section.
The Matesevo-Andrijevica section will be 21 km long, extending across the mountainous part of Montenegro.
Montenegro opened the 41-km Smokovac-Matesevo first section of the motorway in July 2022, which was built by China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC).
The Bar-Boljare motorway is part of pan-European Corridor XI, a ferry/motorway corridor linking Italy's Bari to Romania's Bucharest via Montenegro's Bar port and Serbia's Belgrade.
