Montenegro to ban imports of Euro 4 used cars as of July - report

At the end of March, the transport ministry will introduce changes to the relevant regulations to ban imports of vehicles with Euro 4 certification, raising the minimum standard for imports to the more environmentally friendly Euro 5, the Vijesti daily quoted ministry officials as saying over the weekend.

Euro 5 certification is granted to vehicles manufactured between 2009 and 2013 that produce up to 1.0 gram of carbon monoxide (CO) per kilometre. At present, Montenegro allows the imports of new cars with Euro 6 certification, and used cars meeting at least Euro 4, Vijesti noted.

The total number of motor vehicles registered in Montenegro rose 6.9% year-on-year in 2023, reaching 285,300, with the number of first-time vehicle registrations increasing by 43% to 31,238, the country's statistical office said last month.
