April 12 (SeeNews) - LNG Hrvatska, the operator of Croatia's liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal on the island of Krk, said it has boosted the terminal's regasification capacity to 338,000 cubic metres per hour, equal to 2.9 billion cubic metres per year.

LNG Hrvatska will offer a new free regasification capacity in accordance with the rules of operation in the annual capacity booking procedure for the gas year 2022/2023 and the following gas years, as well as the short-term regasification capacity in the short-term capacity booking procedure from May 1 until the end of the current gas year, it said in a statement on Monday.

Last month, Croatian prime minister Andrej Plenkovic announced plans to increase by 12% the regasification capacity of the LNG terminal in line with Europe's goal to reduce its energy dependence on Russia.

The LNG terminal on the island of Krk started operating in January 2021. It delivers gas to the Croatian national transmission network, which is connected to fellow EU member states Slovenia, Italy and Hungary, as well as to non-EU members Serbia and Montenegro.

Ealier in April, Slovenian infrastructure minister Jernej Vrtovec said that Slovenia hopes to start natural gas imports through the Krk LNG terminal in Croatia in October.

Also on Monday, LNG Hrvatska introduced a new non-standard service for terminal users, ship-to-truck reload operation. Terminal users will be able to book approximately 40 slots for the arrival of LNG trucks on a monthly basis, it added.
