December 15 (SeeNews) - Kosovo submitted its application to join the European Union, prime minister Albin Kurti said on Thursday.
"This is a historic day for the people of Kosovo, and a great day for democracy in Europe," Kurti said in a Twitter post.
Kurti, Kosovo president Vjosa Osmani and parliament speaker Gljauk Konjufca on Wednesday signed the country's application to join the EU.
Later on Wednesday, the Council of the European Union said that its presidency and European Parliament representatives agreed on a draft resolution which will allow the citizens of Kosovo to travel visa-free within the bloc.
Kosovo unilaterally declared independence from Serbia in 2008.
