December 14 (SeeNews) - Kosovo's president Vjosa Osmani, prime minister Albin Kurti and parliament president Gljauk Konjufca on Wednesday signed the country's application to become a member of the European Union, Osmani said.
"A step closer to fulfilling the dream of those who sacrificed their lives for freedom, independence and democracy, as well as, fulfilling our common and unwavering ambition of joining the European Union," Osmani said in a post on Twitter. A video footage of the ceremony was posted on the president's official Twitter account.
Kosovo unilaterally declared independence from Serbia in 2008.
The Council of the European Union said in late November that its presidency will hold talks with the European Parliament (EP) on allowing the citizens of Kosovo to travel visa-free within the bloc.
