October 18 (SeeNews) - Germany is set to provide to Serbia 81 million euro ($106 million) in aid this year, local media reported on Thursday.

The funds will be made available pursuant to a cooperation development protocol signed by German and Serbian officials in Belgrade, news agency Beta (www.beta.rs) reported.

After the signing ceremony, German ambassador Wilhelm Heinz said the aid is aimed for the development of infrastructure, water supply and the energy sector as well as for the advancement of democracy and civil society.

He added that Serbia is among the biggest recipients of German aid and that it has received around 1.2 billion euro from the government in Berlin since 2000.
