The Regional Development and EU Funds Minister Gabrijela Zalac, together with the state rescue agency, will prepare projects to apply for EU funding to cope with the consequences of the flooding, Plenkovic said during a visit to Zadar on Tuesday, according to a government press release.

"We will discuss how to use European funds and what is at our disposal so that we can improve the quality of equipment," Plenkovic said.

Once the assessment of the damage from the flooding is completed, the prefect of Zadar will most likely declare the entire county a natural disaster area, he added.

Zadar was hit by a heavy rainfall on Monday, when 341 litres per square metre fell within just 24 hours, more than the monthly record for September, registered in 1984.
