The investment is funded under the European Union's operational programme Environment, the environment ministry said in a statement.

The project provides for complete renovation of the city’s waste water treatment plant, expansion of the sewerage network by 46 kilometres and repair works on 77 kilometres of the water supply network of Vratsa, in northwestern Bulgaria.

The modernisation of the waste water treatment plant will be carried out by local tie-up VMV led by Bulgarian construction company Vodstroy 98 under a 15.7 million levs contract.
