History

    Aug 24, 1969 – Balkantourist – Albena resort complex is established near Balchik, northeastern Bulgaria.

    Apr 24, 1990 - State-owned company DF Albena is registered as the legal successor of Balkantourist – Albena resort complex, assuming its assets and liabilities.

    Dec 12, 1991 – DF Albena is transformed into a state-owned joint stock company, with a subscribed capital of BGL 101.505 mln.

    Nov 17, 1997 - Bulgaria's Privatisation Agency sells 33% in Albena AD to the UK branch of French bank BNP Paribas, management-employee buyout company Albena-2000 AD and Albena Invest Privatisation Fund, for a total USD 10.116 mln.

    1997 - Further 25% of the company is sold during the mass privatisation, 27% is distributed as restitution compensation and the rest of the capital is sold as privileged shares.

    Jan 26, 1998 – Albena lists on the Bulgarian Stock Exchange.

    Apr 30, 1998 – Bulgaria's Privatisation Agency sells 0.92% of the company's capital to its employees.

    June 24, 1998 - Bulgaria's Privatisation Agency sells 10.7% of Albena AD to Albena-2000 AD and Albena Invest Privatisation Fund for USD 3.278 mln.

    Apr 28, 1999 – Albena AD establishes its subsidiary, casino operator Cherno More 2000 EOOD, in Albena.

    Dec 15, 1999 – The company and Albena-2000 AD set up Albena Tour AD, in Albena, which specialises in tourist services.

    Feb 18, 2000 – It founds another tourist services subsidiary, Albena Tourist Services ATS EOOD, in Sofia, western Bulgaria. Albena Tour AD takes over Albena Tourist Services ATS EOOD in August 2002.

    Apr 13, 2001 – Albena AD buys 80% of state-owned Medical Center Medica Albena EOOD, in Albena, for BGL 660,000. Medical Center Medica Albena EOOD takes over Medical Center Albena EOOD and transforms into a joint stock company in January 2002.

    May 4, 2001 – The company establishes Albena Car EOOD, in Albena, involved in transportation services.

    June 4, 2001 – Albena AD acquires 25.64% of transport company Albena Autotrans AD, in Albena.

    Oct 10, 2001 – The company buys the remaining 20% of Medical Center Medica Albena EOOD for BGL 164,958.

    2001 – Albena AD buys Primorsko resort – Mezhdunaroden Mladezhki Tsentar (International Youth Centre Primorsko), southeastern Bulgaria, for BGN for 9.24 mln.

    Jan 28, 2002 – The company opens a branch in International Youth Centre Primorsko.

    May 30, 2002 – Albena AD establishes its grain farming subsidiary Eko Agro AD, in Albena, holding 90% of it.

    May 31, 2002 – The company founds tourist services provider Belite Skali EAD, in Albena.

    June 19, 2003 – The company sets up its subsidiary Dializen Tsentar Albena EOOD, in Albena, specialising in health care and haemodialysis.

    Aug 13, 2003 – Albena AD's subsidiary Belite Skali EAD is renamed to Byalata Laguna EAD. The seaside resort Byalata Luguna, operated by the company, is opened in June 2003. Byalata Laguna EAD lists on the Bulgarian Stock Exchange on March 9, 2007.

    June 11, 2004 – Albena AD acquires 50% in grape-growing company Vanisa EOOD, Karavelovo, northeastern Bulgaria, and renames it to Ekofrukt OOD.

    Mar 23, 2005 – Albena AD and Neda Health and Tourism Center EOOD, in Albena, set up health care centre Zdravno Uchrezhdenie Medika-Albena AD, in Albena, in which Albena AD holds 49%.

    Aug 3, 2005 – Albena AD and the Municipality of Balchik, notheastern Bulgaria, set up joint venture tourism company Tihiyat Kat AD, in Balchik. Albena AD has a 60% stake in the joint venture.

    Jan 23, 2006 – The company buys 50% of agricultural produce wholesaler Ekoplod OOD, in Dobrich, northeastern Bulgaria.

    April 2009 - Albena AD acquires 99.99% in airport operator Intersky AD, based in Lesnovo, western Bulgaria, from local holding company Albena Holding AD for BGN 22.577 mln. Intersky AD manages the Lesnovo airport near the Bulgarian capital Sofia and the coastal airports Primorsko, southeastern Bulgaria and Balchik. Albena AD sells a 47.83% stake in diversified holding company Albena Invest Holding AD, based in Balchik, to Albena Holding AD for BGN 26.7 mln.

    June 2009 - The minority shareholders in Albena AD accept the tender offer made by Albena Holding AD for their 19% stake in the company.*  Albena Holding AD should pay the minority shareholders a total of BGN 40.144 mln.

    Nov 21, 2011 - Hotel operator Primorsko club spins off Albena AD and becomes independent legal entity.

    Mar 26, 2012 - Albena AD closes its' branch Mezhdunaroden Mladezhki Tsentar Primorsko (International Youth Centre Primorsko).

    2012 - Albena AD establishes its subsidiary, Perpetuum Mobile BG EAD for waste management and utilisation.

    January 2016 - The company changes its stake in Perpetuum Mobile BG AD to 37.61% from 47.59%.

    Nov 1, 2016 - Albena AD takes over Albena Invest Holding AD. The latter no longer exists as a separate legal entity.

    *Editor's note: In April 2009 Albena Holding AD and Albena Invest Holding AD sign an agreement to jointly manage Albena AD. As a result of the signed agreement the two companies hold a total of 68% in Albena AD and according to the Law for Public Offering of Securities, if a shareholder acquires, directly or indirectly, more than 50% of the votes in a company, the shareholder is required to make a tender offer for the shares of the remaining shareholders with voting rights.
