The Budapest Geothermal Energy Summit will be opened by Hungary’s Minister of Energy Csaba Lantos who will present the government’s policies and strategic objectives regarding the development of geothermal capacities.
Geothermal energy can play an important role in ensuring clean energy for Europe in the midst of the continent’s efforts for energy security and phasing out dependence on Russian fossil fuels. According to estimations geothermal heating, cooling and power have already saved 10 billion cubic metres (bcm) of gas and other fossil energy imports from Russia. At the Budapest Geothermal Energy Summit Miklos Antics, President of the European Geothermal Energy Council (EGEC) will speak about how geothermal energy can help to achieve the REPowerEU objectives.
Due to its versatility, geothermal energy can impact many sectors, besides electricity production, it also provides opportunities for the industry, district heating and cooling, agriculture and the food industry.
The speakers of the Budapest Geothermal Energy Summit include Károly Mátrai, CEO of MVM Group who will present the insights of the biggest Hungarian energy company in terms of geothermal energy. Miklós Zaránd, Deloitte's Partner responsible for the energy consulting business, will talk about the opportunities and challenges facing the market. Eirikur Bragason, COO of Arctic Green Energy and Gábor Molnár, Managing Director of Mannvit will share how to export the Icelandic success in geothermal to markets around the globe. While, Prof. Maria Mutti, President-Elect of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) will present on overview of geothermal energy in the energy transition.
