"Currently, the first three out of 20 new low-floor trams are being manufactured on the production lines of Koncar and are expected to be delivered to ZET next spring, or possibly even earlier," stated Tomasevic during a visit to the electrical vehicles manufacturing unit of Croatian engineering group Koncar [ZSE:KOEI], as cited in a press release by the town authorities on Tuesday.

In addition to these 20, the city will procure an additional 40 new trams, bringing the total to 60 new trams after a 15-year period with no acquisitions, he added.

A public procurement tender for the delivery of 20 trams will be called in the next months and another one for further 20 trams will be called by the end of the year, Tomasevic said.

The existing deal for the construction of the 20 new low-floor trams is worth 47.20 million euro ($50.5 million), with the funding mostly provided by the European Union’s Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF), together with the transport ministry.

Koncar's shares ended 0.78% lower at 256 euro on Tuesday on the Zagreb bourse.
