January 26 (SeeNews) - VMware Bulgaria, part of US-based cloud computing company VMware, said on Friday it plans to double its workforce in the capital Sofia to 1,500 in the next few years.
"The office in Sofia is the main development and innovation hub of the company in the EMEA region (Europe, the Middle East and Africa) and is among the top three key strategic development centers for VMware worldwide," the company said in a statement.
To accomodate its increased Sofia team, VMware will invest in leasing a brand new office building in Sofia Garitage Park, the company added.
Earlier this week, VMware Bulgaria said it plans to sign a lease deal for offices in Sofia's residential and business complex Garitage Park, which is currently under construction.
VMware Bulgaria said it will rent more than 20,000 sq m of office space in two of the buildings in the complex, in what is supposed to be the largest deal on the Bulgarian market in the last 10 years, according to real estate advisor Colliers International Group, a strategic consultant of VMware.
The company's new offices are expected to be completed in 2019, the company said on Tuesday.
Garitage Park complex covers a total of 165,000 sq m. The project will be developed in several phases and will include 95,000 sq m of office space, 60,000 sq m residential space, 90,000 sq m of parks, playgrounds and pedestrian areas, primary school, sport centre and commercial spaces.
