February 16 (SeeNews) - The United States Department of State and the Albanian foreign ministry have signed memorandums of understanding (MoU) focusing on countering foreign state disinformation and US higher education scholarships for Albanian students, the US state secretary Anthony Blinken said on Thursday, following his first official visit to Albania.
The two countries aim to develop a shared approach to countering dangerous disinformation and build a resilient information ecosystem in the face of what Blinken described as an “information war”.
The countries also signed agreements to double the number of Albanian students who can receive scholarships to study in US universities under the Fulbright foreign student programme, which enables graduate students, young professionals and artists from abroad to study and conduct research in the U.S.
Blinken and Albanian prime minister Edi Rama also discussed strengthening the economic relations between the two countries, especially in the renewable energy sector and hydropower.
Blinken noted that US investment in Albania has tripled since 2019.
