The turbo generator of the plant's Unit 1 was disconnected from the grid on Sunday evening, without switching off the reactor, in order to perform repair works on the classical part of the unit, Nuclearelectrica said in a statement filed with the Bucharest Stock Exchange.
The repair works and the reconnection activities had no adverse impact on the population, the plant's staff, the NPP equipment or the environment, it added.
The plant's other unit, Unit 2, was shut down in a controlled manner on December 23 in order to repair a defect on an impulse line related to a measurement instrument located in the reactor building, and was reconnected to the grid late on December 25 and early on December 26.
Blue chip Nuclearelectrica operates the country's sole nuclear power plant, located in Cernavoda, in Romania's southeast. The Cernavoda plant has two reactors of 700 megawatts each, which cover roughly a fifth of the country's power needs.
