December 9 (SeeNews) - Macedonia’s trade deficit rose by 81% to $2.484 billion (1.935 billion euro) through October from $1.372 billion a year earlier, the Macedonian Statistics Office said on Tuesday.

Macedonia’s exports rose by 25.8% on the year to $3.447 billion through October, while imports rose by 44% to $5.931 billion, the statistics office said in a statement.

The country of more than two million people exports mainly ferro-nickel, iron and steel products, lubricants and clothes. It imports mainly crude oil, electricity, and motor vehicles.

Macedonia's biggest foreign markets are European Union member states (59.8%) and the western Balkans (35%), while most imports originate in the EU (47.4%) and developing countries (31.8%). Macedonia’s most important trade partners through October were Serbia, Germany, Greece, Russia and Bulgaria with a combined share of 50.2% of all trade.
