September 17 (SeeNews) - Japanese electric motors manufacturer Nidec Corporation is considering a 100 million euro ($118 million) investment in the construction of a factory in Novi Sad, northern Serbia, the Serbian president's office said on Thursday.
Nidec would open about 100 jobs in Serbia if it decides to build a factory in Novi Sad, the president of the Japanese company, Jun Seki, said during a meeting with president Aleksandar Vucic, the president's office said in a statement.
The construction of the factory may start in 2021, according to the statement.
On Wednesday, a delegation of Nidec led by Seki visited the Sever 4 area of Novi Sad's industrial zone to study the site. Novi Sad was included in a list of potential locations for the construction of a factory in Europe, the Novi Sad city government said on Wednesday.
Novi Sad would provide all needed logistics for the construction of the factory, as the project will have a great importance for the city and for Serbia, Novi Sad mayor, Milos Vucevic, said during a meeting with Seki.
Nidec Corporation, listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, is a manufacturer of electric motors used in hard-disk drives, electric appliances, automobiles and commercial and manufacturing equipment.
