September 15 (SeeNews) - Bulgaria's consumer prices rose by 1.2% year-on-year in August, after they increased by the same annual rate in July, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) said on Tuesday.
On a monthly comparison basis, consumer prices were flat in August, after increasing by 0.5% in the previous month, NSI said in a monthly inflation report.
The year-on-year rise in the consumer price index (CPI) was supported mainly by a 4.5% increase in the prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages, which have the largest weight in the consumer basket.
Prices in the transport sector, which have the third largest weight in the consumer price index, fell the most in August - by 9.6% year-on-year.
The subindex tracking the other major category - housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, edged up by 0.7% on the year.
Bulgaria’s EU-harmonised consumer price index (HICP) rose by 0.6% on an annual comparison basis in August and was 0.4% higher compared to the July level.
