Turkey's Kordsa Global, Sabanci Uni break ground on 65 mln lira (23 mln euro) RDC centre

The Composite Technologies Center of Excellence, to be established under the industry-university partnership model, will work on advanced, nanotechnology-integrated composite technologies that transform many industries from aviation to automotive, Sabanci University said in a statement on its website on Tuesday.

The centre has an indoor area of 10,000 square metres with 3000 square metres of laboratory facilities. It will provide facilities for graduate education, fundamental research, applied research, product development, incubation services and commercialisation opportunities in composite technologies. The centre will host PhD students and postdoctoral researchers, faculty members, incubation companies, researchers, engineers and employees that will collaborate in research, learning and production.

Kordsa Global, a unit of Turkish conglomerate Sabanci Holding, specialises in the manufacturing of nylon and polyester yarns and cord fabrics for the rubber, composite, and construction markets.

Sabanci University is established by the Sabanci Foundation, a philanthropic foundation formed by the Sabanci family. Its revenue is sustained mainly through donations from family members, Sabancı Group companies and revenue generated by financial assets.
