January 28 (SeeNews) - Turkey expects its gold production in 2020 to hit a new all-time high with an estimated volume of 45 tonnes, local media reported citing Hasan Yucel, president of the Turkish Gold Miners Association.
Further, Turkey's annual gold production could reach 60 tonnes within five years and 160 tonnes within 15 years, Anadolu Agency reported on Monday, quoting Yucel.
In 2019 gold production in Turkey hit a historic record of 38 tonnes, according to the executive. Production in the period between 2001 and 2019 amounted to a total of 338 tonnes.
Turkey currently imports 140-160 tonnes of gold annually, which creates a deficit of $7 billion (6.35 billion euro) to $8 billion, Yucel told the agency.
