Further, Turkey's annual gold production could reach 60 tonnes within five years and 160 tonnes within 15 years, Anadolu Agency reported on Monday, quoting Yucel.

In 2019 gold production in Turkey hit a historic record of 38 tonnes, according to the executive. Production in the period between 2001 and 2019 amounted to a total of 338 tonnes.

Turkey currently imports 140-160 tonnes of gold annually, which creates a deficit of $7 billion (6.35 billion euro) to $8 billion, Yucel told the agency.
