April 29 (SeeNews) - The operator of Albania’s main airport, Tirana International Airport (TIA), said on Monday it has served 2.8 million passengers in the first four months of 2024.

Passenger numbers at the airport of Tirana reached 1,683,397 in the January-April period of 2023, data published last year on TIA’s website show.

The increase in passenger numbers was driven by the introduction of new airlines at the airport, along with destinations which were not accessible before, TIA said in a post on social media LinkedIn.

“One of the most prestigious lines in the world, Iberia, was recently added to the list of lines operating in Albania, connecting Tirana with Madrid three times a week,” TIA stated.

Last year in October, TIA also saw Irish low-cost carrier Ryanair launch operations in Albania. Ryanair now operates flights connecting Tirana to 24 destinations in 11 countries across Europe, its website shows.

Foreign tourist arrivals to Albania reached 1.7 million in the first quarter of 2024, an increase from 1.07 million in the same quarter of 2023, the tourism ministry said earlier this month.
