BELGRADE (Serbia), December 15 (SeeNews) – Spanish-based Wind Alliance Group plans to invest about 420 million euro ($610.7 million) in the construction of a 350-megawatt wind park in Serbia over the next three years, Serbian broadcaster b92 reported on Tuesday.

The Spanish investor plans to build the wind park close to the town of Pancevo, in northern Serbia, b92 (www.b92.net) quoted Spanish ambassador in Belgrade Inigo de Palacio Espana as saying.

The project has been in the works for a year, he said.

Espana signed on Monday a memorandum of understanding with Serbia's Energy Minister Petar Skundric on behalf of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation for the promotion of the use of solar energy in Serbia, further technology development and a solar energy pilot project.

Solar energy makes 14% of Serbia’s renewable energy potential, Espana said. The Balkan country could release two million tonnes of carbon dioxide less if 2.5 million of its households switch to solar energy for water heating. Serbia is a country of about 7.4 million people.
