November 18 (SeeNews) - Slovenia’s largest insurer, Zavarovalnica Triglav, on Tuesday posted a 48% drop in parent pre-tax profit to a preliminary 29.15 million euro ($24 million) in the first nine months of 2008 due to an increase in claims.

The claims paid out by the insurer rose 16% to 305 million euro through September, due to a summer spell of thunderstorms, Zavarovalnica Triglav said in its unaudited nine-month financial report filed with the Ljubljana Stock Exchange (LJSE), where its shares are listed.

Gross premium income rose by 9.0% to 589.3 million euro in the first nine months of 2008.

Shares of blue chip Zavarovalnica Triglav sank 5.11% to an average price of 21.18 euro on the LJSE on Tuesday amid an overall market slump. The insurer released its financial results after the end of trading.
