May 14 (SeeNews) - Slovenian energy company Petrol [LJE:PETG] and three other companies, Dutch Allego, Hungary’s Emobility Solutions and Polish GreenWay, have been selected to set up charging points in eight European countries, Petrol said.

"The project has been selected to implement 130 million euro ($141 million) investments in high power charging infrastructure with a total grant of 34.45 million euro from the European Union and is scheduled to be finalised by October 2026," Petrol said in a press release on Monday.

The so-called CROSS-E project aims to promote zero-emission travel by setting up powerful electric vehicle charging stations along important routes and ports throughout Europe.

Under the project, the four companies will install a total of 911 charging points, of 150 kW and 350 kW, at 239 locations tailored to both light and heavy-duty electric vehicles (LDV & HDV).

The four entities chosen for CROSS-E will operate across Croatia, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Belgium, Italy, and the Netherlands. Collectively, they will install 838 recharging points for LDVs (150 – 350 kW) and 73 recharging points for HDVs (350 kW).

Petrol will install 65 charging points (150 kW and 350 kW) at 20 main locations in Slovenia, nine of which will cater to heavy-duty electric vehicles (HDVs). Additionally, the company will set up 40 charging points at 15 key locations in Croatia, with eight providing charging options for HDVs.

The CROSS-E project has been chosen by the European Commission as part of the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Facility (AFIF) within the framework of the Connecting Europe Facility, the EU’s funding program supporting European transport infrastructure.

CROSS-E installations will follow the EU's alternative fuels infrastructure regulation, ensuring open access to charging stations. They will be open 24/7 to the public, supporting various payment methods like NFC, credit cards, and apps. Installing charging points for HDVs in some markets will provide useful insights for future installations.

GreenWay provides EV recharging solutions across Central and Eastern Europe.

Emobility Solutions offers B2B electromobility solutions and projects like on-site testing for high-power chargers and vehicle-to-grid trials.

Allego offers more than 35,000 charging points in 16 countries, focusing on sustainable charging solutions for all vehicles.

Shares of Petrol gained 1.40% to close at 28.90 euro on Tuesday on the Ljubljana Stock Exchange.
