Slovenia's Koper port Pier I extension may lift capacity by 2.0 mln TEUs/yr

Although Luka Koper wants to remain a multi-purpose port, containers and vehicles will continue to be strategic cargo types, Marko Rems was quoted as saying in a company statement issued after he appeared as a guest speaker before the Port of Koper International Propeller Club, an association for the promotion of the development of the maritime sector.

Rems said container freight handling will be concentrated on Pier I, which already has all the necessary infrastructure in place.

Luka Koper's throughput rose 24% to 589,314 TEUs in 2011.
