Slovenia's budget gap narrows to 342 mln euro in Jan-Aug

September 8 (SeeNews) - Slovenia's consolidated budget was in deficit of 342 million euro ($342 million) in the first eight months of 2022, down from a 2.4 billion euro deficit in the like period of last year, the finance ministry said.

Budget revenues in the first eight months of 2022 rose 16.7% on the year to 8.2 billion euro, while expenditure declined 9.4% to 8.6 billion euro, the finance ministry said in a statement earlier this week.

Tax revenue in January-August totalled 7.0 billion euro, 17.5% more than in the same period last year, whereas value-added tax (VAT) inflow went up 20.3% to 3.16 billion euro and corporate income tax inflows increased by 46% to 1.15 billion euro, the finance ministry noted.

Interest expenses in the first eight months reached a total of 470 million euro and were 90 million euro lower than in the same period last year, the finance ministry said.

Slovenia closed 2021 with a consolidated budget deficit of 2.915 billion euro, equivalent to 5.8% of the estimated gross domestic product (GDP).
