On a monthly comparison basis, consumer prices rose by 0.5% in May, after growing 1.0% in April, the statistical office said in a statement posted on its website.
The annual growth rate was pushed up the most, by 0.5 of a percentage point (pp), by 6.8% higher prices in restaurants and hotels. Higher prices in the group housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels, up 3.1%, contributed 0.4 pp.
The biggest impact on the monthly inflation, 0.2 pp, came from 4.0% higher prices of package holidays, while additional 0.1 pp was added by higher prices of fruit and women's garments. All other price increases in May contributed another 0.2 pp.
Measured with the harmonised index of consumer prices, the annual growth of consumer prices was 2.5% in May.
