September 30 (SeeNews) - Slovenian stock indices tumbled more than four percent each on Tuesday amid a sell-off on the Ljubljana Stock Exchange (LJSE) after the U.S. Congress rejected a $700 billion (489 billion euro) rescue plan for the troubled financial sector, brokers said.

The blue-chip SBITOP index of the LJSE toppled 4.39% to close at 1,371.97 and the broader 15-share SBI20 index lost 4.13% to 6,188.15.

“All investors are following events in the U.S., so it is not surprising that there was a sell-off in Slovenia,” Darko Kovacic, an analyst at Maribor-based Raiffeisen Banka, told SeeNews.

“I would say that the crisis in the U.S. had the biggest impact [...] There is insecurity on the market,” Kovacic said.

All 10 blue chips gave up ground on Tuesday with household appliance manufacturer Gorenje as the top loser. It fell 6.71% to an average price of 24.90 euro on turnover of 187,000 euro.

It was followed by port operator Luka Koper, which fell 6.47% to 43.37 euro on some 224,000 euro of turnover.

Shares in heavyweight blue-chip drug maker Krka were the most traded on Tuesday. They fell 5.88% to an average price of 74.40 euro on turnover of some 2.26 million euro.

LJSE's total turnover more than doubled to 4.94 million euro on Tuesday from 1.87 million euro on Monday.
