The company opened in June a 23 million euro shopping centre in the capital Sarajevo, the first step in the expansion of its chain in Bosnia, it said earlier. Merkur operates in Bosnia via a metallurgy firm, Intermerkur, and a hardware retailing firm, Intermerkur Nova.

“In the next four years we plan to invest an additional 70 million euro in retail outlets and trading centres in all bigger cities of Bosnia,” daily newspaper Dnevni Avaz quoted the director of Intermerkur Nova, Igor Lipanovic, as saying.

Merkur has said it plans to open shopping centres in the cities of Tuzla, Banja Luka and Mostar.

Besides Slovenia, the company runs retail chains in Serbia, Croatia and Macedonia.
