Greece had the EU's second-highest jobless rate in September - 11.8%, preceded only by Spain with 12.7%, Eurostat said in a statement on Thursday.
The average EU jobless rate in September stood at 6.0%, while for the euro area it was 6.6%, the data showed.
Apart from Greece, Croatia was the other EU member in SEE whose rate of unemployment exceeded the bloc-wide average, standing at 6.3%.
All SEE countries in the 27-member bloc recorded annual declines in their respective unemployment rates in September, with Romania showing the slightest one, of 0.1 percentage point.
